Raven Cliff Campground & Picnic Area is located
in Mount
Rogers National Recreation Area. This campground offers 20
campsites beside Cripple Creek. All are available on a first-come,
first-served basis. Each unit has a parking spur, tent pad or
trailer space, wooden picnic table, and fire grill. Recreation
vehicles up to 32 feet can be accommodated. A central water hydrant
and garbage containers are provided. A picnic shelter accommodates
75 and is also available on a first-come, first-served basis (no
reservations). Cripple Creek runs through the area for wading
and fishing (stocked with trout in the spring). The open fields
provide a grassy area for games. A trail follows along Cripple
Creek to the Civil War era Raven Cliff Iron Furnace.
This campground is open year round, however the
Forest Service does not plow the access road or campground loops
when it snows.
Directions: From I-81 take exit 67, 70, or 72 at
Wytheville onto US 11 (Main Street). On the west end of town,
US 11 turns off and Main Street becomes US 21 south. Follow US
21 south for approximately 11 ½ miles to Virginia state
route 619 and go about 7 miles to the campground.
